Hilary is a lawyer with considerable experience advising on planning and environmental permitting for UK gasification projects. She regular leads negotiations with local planning authorities, the Environment Agency, and other government stakeholders. She has advised on a number of successful gasification planning applications and has negotiated with Ofgem on the place of EfW in the Renewable Obligation.
Hilary is a Visiting Lecturer in Environmental Law at Brunel University’s School of Engineering and Design. She is also an Honorary Research Fellow in waste management and environmental law at Imperial College London.
Hilary’s work in environmental and waste law has been published widely and she is currently working on a paper entitled ‘New Waste Technologies’ to be published by John Wiley and Sons in 2009.
Hilary is a member of a number of industry and government organisations including the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, the UK Environmental Law Association, the DEFRA Advisory Committee on Hazardous Substances, and the Resource Recovery Forum.
